You Can Call Me Al

Alister Barker’s game seems to have more highs and lows than Drake’s Passage, but on Thursday, June 1st he rode the swell all the way to the shoreline for a much-needed confidence boosting win after scratching out 22 stableford points.

Although Barker’s inconsistency did not leave him on the day, he did manage to curtail the demons with two fantastic net eagles on holes 11 and 14 which offset some sloppy play on the 10th and 15th holes to return the smile to his face for another week.

Disco Dave could be forgiven for feeling a trifle disappointed as he too posted 22 stableford points but lost out to Barker in the 6 hole card count back, thanks in part to an untidy finish on his final hole, the treacherous Par 5, 13th.

Despite the sweaty and sticky conditions, the Tourette’s Thursday Club peaked with 34 competitors, meaning we had a multitude of special event prizes to keep everyone entertained.

Ian (Nigel) Mansell found the warm conditions to his likening as his oil was flowing freely to secure the pin on the 12th hole, with Jihad Azzam reacquainting himself with his former foe, hole number 16 to receive the accolades.

The Longest Putt on the 10th hole had more bends than the Amazon River which obviously excited Daniel O’Brien’s competitive juices as he was able to stick it from 60ft for the largest prize on the night.

Ahmad Mustapha showed that class is permanent as his deft touch with the Lobber was rewarded on the 11th hole with the Chip Win, while Gary Smith’s excellent approach to the 15th hole had him smiling from ear to ear.

Jolly Jonathon also walked away grinning like a Cheshire cat as his little nudge with a 9 iron into the dog leg right 17th hole finished inside 6ft to provide him with some Drinking Vouchers. The final Special Events Prize was Least Putts, and this was hotly contested with 3 players sharing the spoils on 12 putts each, H.H. Sheikh Fahim Al Quasimi, Mizu and Callum.

We had 5 Blind Pair Draws on the night and the following Lucky Devils all walked away with some added incentives.

  1. Ajay & Callum
  2. Ahmad & Mizu
  3. Sherman & Michelle
  4. Alister & Gary
  5. Ian & Robbie
