With the close of play after day 1 of the Club Championships, finding a winner will be as tough as trying to find a white cat in a snowstorm.
In the Men’s Division, two players are tied at the Top, Mohamed Abdul Fattah (Mizu) and Graham Farrington who both posted scores of 78.
Both men had patches of brilliance on the course, with Farrington going out in level par 36 on the outward half, only to return to Port with a lack luster 6 over par 42.
Farrington has been undergoing some swing and equipment changes of late and it seems that this coupled with his dedication to practice sees his game falling into place at just the right time.
Mizu on the other hand set sail straight into a storm with a front nine of 43, 7 over par after only reeling in 2 pars. The back nine was a different story however, as three successive birdies on holes 14 through to 16 had him lying at 3 under par with two holes to play.
Having successfully navigated the treacherous 17th hole, Mizu made a complete mess of the relatively straight forward Par 5, 18th hole to record a very untimely double bogey and with it his chances of leading outright going into the final round the following week.
Nipping at the heels of the leading pair are Fady Azzam and Dr. Jey, who both posted scores of 80 and who will be looking to capitalise on any faults from the top two contenders when they duel it out for the Championship Title.
In the Ladies Division, Anupma Kotwal posted a score of 100 and leads the way ever so slightly over Patricia Mottershead on 101, with Michelle Lim on 103.
All ladies struggled for consistency at stages during their round, but one knows that all of them have a shot at the Title if they can find that missing piece to the puzzle by next weekend.
The Net Division has seen two wonderful scores posted with Steve White signing for a net 61, and David Biddlecombe a net 62. Graham Farrington is also circling if they slip up as he also scored sub 72 with his effort of 67 net in what will make for some great viewing in the final round.
