A cool change greeted the 36 players for the Inaugural Pimms Cider Cup with Team Kotwa tasting success as they triumphed over a slightly depleted Team Azzam, 19 ½ points to 7 ½ points. The format was pairs betterball matchplay with teams forced to go the distance over the 18 holes in the vein of trying to secure as many points as possible from the 3 points up for grabs.
Things started strongly for team Kotwal, with his lead pair securing a maximum 3 points with this trend continuing throughout the day, but as always, Team Azzam were applying the pressure in every way they could, even resorting to distributing mind altering refreshments to throw the players off their games. Unfortunately for Team Azzam, the experience of Team Kotwal’s players shone through to afford them the Title and the bragging rights for the season ahead.
A big thank you must be extended to both Captain’s, Jihad Azzam and Ajay Kotwal, as well as all of the players who once again embraced the format and the spirit in which the game was meant to be played, and as a result this event looks to be a permanent addition to the Club’s competition schedule.
