Ian “Pies” Craig Dominates Gulf Coal Open

Ian Craig scorched around the Links in 43 stableford points to claim his maiden title at the Club after nearly 2 ½ years as Member, so to say he deserved it was quite the understatement.

Ian’s golf on the day matched his attire, simply flawless, scoring no fewer than 8 net birdies and 1 net eagle in his blistering performance.

Starting from hole 9 can strike fear into the game’s elite, but Ian took it in his stride and calmly set about making a net par. This steady start obviously was to set the tone for the rest of the days as he went on to score 23 stableford points on holes 10 through 18.

With the momentum well and truly in his favour and his confidence sky high, the remaining 8 holes were defenseless, as he walked away extracting a further 20 stableford points and a Win for the ages.

The chasing pack also put up strong performances as Sam Dawson & Ahmad Mustapha were forced to a countback after they finished locked together on 40 stableford points, with the favour falling in Sam’s direction.

The countback trend continued for the 4th place prize also, with John Hood getting the wood over Michelle Im after they were locked together on 37 stableford points.

In the Non-Handicap Division and helped along by achieving the rare feat of a Hole in One was Mr. Joe Wivou, who proved that class is permanent as he scored a net of 72 to triumph by 3 shots.

The remaining two places once again had to be decided by a countback, with Paul Harrison edging out Dene Ramsden when they both finished on 75 net.
