On Friday 13th May, the Tower Links Goats upstaged the Happy Hookers from Dubai in an epic battle over 18 holes of golf.
Playing the Fourball Matchplay format, teams were playing for an overall total of 3 points, which if successful meant that they won a point for each of the nine holes played plus the overall match score.
On paper, the Goats looked the more fancied team, but as we all know, it ain’t over till it’s over, and that ethos certainly ran strongly with the Hookers.
Leading the way for the Hookers was Scott Griffiths and Paul Harrison who stopped event organizer Gerry Gibson whom partnered Faddy Azzam dead in their hoof tracks as they plied the maximum 3 points from their match.
The next 6 matches all leaned towards the goats, and incredibly all featured the same score line, that being Goats 2, Hookers 1. In the end, the Goats nibbled their way to a 2 point win over the worn out Hookers whom will be certain to take a lot of positives from their overall performance.
In the special event prizes on the day, Wilma Bickell struck Gold on two occasions as she claimed the pin prize o the 4th as well as the Long Drive on Hole 7, with Ahmed Mustapha and Dom Jolly taking the pin spoils on the 16th and 18th holes.
