In a tightly fought contest, Rest of the World has fought off a determined effort by Team Europe in the Spyder Cup contest for 2016. After an absence of a few years, the Cup returned bigger and better than ever with 44 competitors slugging it out in the betterball matchplay format.
With teams being rewarded 1 point for each nine and 1 point overall it put the onus on the pairings to fight till the end as even ½ point can have a huge bearing on the overall result. The opening match went the way of ROW, with the trend continuing for the first 3 matches until Europe found their feet.
The battle continued to see saw with ROW holding a 6 point lead halfway through the matches, however, Europe dug deep with a spirited fight back to claw within 1 point at one stage thanks to a brilliant performances from Cavan Bickell & John Maguire, Phil Madin & Graham Farrington with Mike Magee and Oliver Spencer.
Unfortunately though it was too little too late for Team Europe as they could not bridge the deficit from the earlier matches, leaving Captain Ajay Kotwal and Team ROW as the victors for the 2016 Spyder Cup.
